In the essay exam, I chose “The Yellow Wallpaper” and “I heard a Fly buzz” and compared their use of setting. Following the advice mentioned in class, I pre-wrote two outlines of the five protentional essay questions, which is similar to the structure of the sample essay in our text book. It worked well because I have the same question in the essay exam. I saved a lot time on choosing the question and organizing my essay structure. I looked for additional info on the Internet as well. Since I was not sure the quotes I chose support my thesis or not, I read other’s articles about setting in “The Yellow Wallpaper” and “I heard a Fly buzz.” It inspired me with new ideas and gave me a better understanding of how setting works in the text.

In Ali’s response, he says “add a couple more sentences,” to answer, “so what?” Although I have specific examples to describe how setting works in the two works, I need to provide more evidence about why setting is important in the text. For example, rather than only pointing out setting reflects the atmosphere of the text, I could say the atmosphere leads audience to imagine and read in a specific mood, like sadness, horror, or happiness, thus, authors can express his or her theme accurately. Additional, during the exam, my hand writing speed was not fast enough and I revised my sentences a lot which wasted me a lot of time.
If I could prepare the essay exam again, I would keep doing I have done this time, and organize better arguments to make my points more reasonable. I would also make a practice exam to test my general time to finish an essay. For future, I would try to use pens to write more often, so that I can speed up my hand writing and have less revision during the
