Coping is when a person attempts to solve something difficult in their life and that can be anything from stress to chronic illnesses. There are two types of coping which are problem-focused and emotion-focused (Lecture 8). Protective buffering is a relationship-focused coping that falls under the emotion-focused coping strategy (Lecture 8). Protective buffering is basically the concealment of one’s own worries to better protect the emotional state of their loved ones. (Lecture 8). However, throughout the process of protective buffering, one or both sides of the party will suffer emotionally. In this paper, I intend to explore protective buffering and social constraints in order to better understand young adults who have cancer. In
