Not only Facebook, Twitter or Youtube are dangerous. Children can install apps themselves for free and unfortunately, they can be as dangerous as the internet. According to crosswalk.com these are the 9 most dangerous apps: Whisper, Yik Yak, Kik, Snapchat, Vine, Chat Roulette and Omegle, Tinder and Poof.
Whisper for example, is an app to exchange messages with other user in your geographic area. Yik Yak users are anonymous. No account or profile is necessary. A psychiatrist called this app „The most dangerous app he’d ever seen because it „can turn a school into a virtual chat room where everyone can post his or her comments, anonymously. Several schools have banned smart phones because of this app ( qtd. Dr. Keith Ablow).

However, kids must start learning that the “Internet is not a haven of privacy” (Coben 1). So, everything on posted can already be seen are all and maybe even seen by future employers, teachers, or dates. As a result, kids have to be extremely careful about what they post and parents should always be updated and aware of what their child is doing on the Internet. Another argument might be that it is illegal to listen to another person’s conversation, which is true, but only applies to people older than eighteen. Furthermore, it is important to remember that this isn’t the government listens, but that child’s own loving and caring parents, “Loving parents are doing the surveillance here, not faceless bureaucrats” (Coben 1).…

Although deciding if you trust your child or not may seem trivial, it is in fact crucial in terms of today’s concerns over teenagers’ use of the internet. If you were a parent with teenage children, would you use spyware to monitor your child’s internet use? This is what many parents have chosen to do in order to watch what their children are doing on the internet. Many parents use it to protect their children from things like cyberbullying and pedophiles, while others use it to spy on them to find good gossip or to be overly involved in their children’s lives. The differences between the responsibly protective parent and the irresponsibly nosy parent are discussed in “The Undercover Parent” an article by Harlan Coben, and in this essay as well.…

I agree with Harlan Coben because the internet can be dangerous if not careful . The proper way that I think would be most effective would be just tell your teens to look out for certain things that may be dangerous. Also if you are planning on spying on your kids at least advise them you are doing so , because that would be wrong to invade their privacy. In Cobbins argumentative / persuasive essay , his argument was similar to mine because he supports the the fact of spying but also defended the privacy of teens. One reason to support the fact of monitoring kids would be that it may support them by reducing their chances of getting in trouble.…
