1. The protagonist in the story is Trevor. One of the conflicts in the story is when he suddenly becomes the head leader of the gang in Blackie’s place. The antagonist would be Mr Thomas, aka Old Misery, whose house the gang was looking forward to break into and destroy.
2. Suspense is created through the withholding of information between the characters and toward us the readers. For example, when Trevor arrived to the gang with the story of being inside Old Misery’s house for the first time, there are many pieces of information that he left out, as if he was hiding something and did not tell the story entirely. Other factors such as the setting and backstory also influence during the scene where the old man arrives home and the kids have to plan quickly.
3. It differs from commercial fiction because it’s setup is …show more content…
It shows some sort of underprivileged culture which scorns the high class. Perhaps the boys were living in the lower areas of London where societal norms are degraded, poverty and other conditions of despair (known factors that downgrade the quality of life) thrived among people living in those areas.
7. This gang wasn’t looking for financial gain or to benefit themselves in any way. For instance, when T found the pounds in Old Misery’s house, he decided not to keep them as a thief would, but to burn them with Blackie (addressing morality). The destruction of the house also was some sort of statement on a deeper level for the neighborhood rather than pure vandalism.
8. Human nature reacts spitefully towards injustice. Perhaps the fact that the war bombings had devastated all but one house in the block, actually represents the unfairness of how some people can result unharmed from certain situations while the rest suffer the consequences. This easily translates to war, when a group of people in power decide to take drastic measures at the cost of others (lack of empathy), for an empty purpose or
