Prostitution is known to be the voluntary act of engaging in sexual activity where sex trafficking is forcing a woman to engage in sexual activity. Now, Charlotte chose to prostitute where Aretta was forced into it. Prostitution and sex trafficking might be viewed as opposites, but in reality they aren’t much different. They share the same concept of dehumanizing women. When someone is dehumanized they are stripped of their humanity and basic civil rights. It’s common to be belittled or treated as an animal or object. Whether you are considered a prostitute or a victim of sex trafficking, both titles involve selling your body and being dehumanized. In both circumstances, the woman gets treated like property that is to be bought and sold.

My only knowledge stemmed from the Taken movies which took place in Europe so I never thought of sex trafficking personally affecting me. But the other night, I was driving down Burnside and to my left I glanced at a young girl waiting for the bus. Short, blonde hair tied back in a ponytail, blue jeans and a zip up jacket sitting on the bus bench. I slowly drove by and started thinking what a girl around 15 years of age was doing waiting for the city bus all by herself at 8pm at night. She very well could have been coming home from soccer practice or on her way home from dinner.
