For instance, if prostitutes are being tested regularly for HIV, they may show negative for up to 12 weeks. This leads to exposure of hundreds of individuals until results are known. Not to mention, what if the prostitutes does show positive to an STD, would she likely stop working? In order to help abolish the spread of STDs, prostitution should remain illegal (ProCon, 2009).
Many argue that legalizing prostitution will eliminate rape, however prostitution itself is rape. The connection between the two is that woman become objects for a man’s pleasure and sexual use by being bought. This allow rape to flourish in society. Some defenders may argue that prostitution is a way to solve poverty. This gives the illusion that only woman living in poverty should turn to prostitution in order to better their life.
