Prospect Impressions: Soustal pulls out the "Michigan move," Draisaitl stays hot, North Dakota's

teamwork

Every year it seems like one or two players in the hockey world pull off a lacrosse-style goal and

catches the attention of national media. Tomas Soustal joined the club this weekend, drawing the

attention of hockey fans worldwide. Also in this week's edition of Prospect Impressions, Leon

Draisaitl and Teemu Pulkkinen score, plus more from junior hockey and one college play that has

coaches taking notes.

If you look at the Kelowna Rockets roster and pass over Czech import Tomas Soustal, you wouldn't

be alone. The 6'3", 200-pound forward played a complimentary role for the Rockets last year as the

team won the WHL championship.

Leon Draisaitl, Soustal's teammate last year on Kelowna, is off to a hot start and making the

Edmonton Oilers a little more comfortable without Connor McDavid in the lineup. After a tumultous

season where Draisaitl was kept in Edmonton for half a season, then returned to junior where he

subsequently joined a new franchise, Draisaitl can settle into Edmonton long-term. With Taylor

Hall on one side of the ice, the duo is climbing up the scoring charts and linking up all over the

ice.

The London Knights have been rolling lately, featuring another top line in the CHL. With newcomer

Matt Tkachuk on board, the Knights have loaded up their first line with Toronto Maple Leafs

prospect Mitch Marner and Arizona Coyotes prospect Christian Dvorak. The trio has combined for 122

points thus far, proving to be a difficult line to contain. If they keep making spin passes like

the gem Tkachuk and Dvorak pulled off, it's going to be a long season for fellow Midwest Division

rivals.

As we get through OTA's and begin yet another preseason in Tampa Bay, we believe we have the right guys in place on defense. With the acquisitions of Vinny Curry, J.P.P., Mitch Unrein, and Beau Allen added to the defensive line, it adds the depth we have not had in a long time! The line will consist of Gerald McCoy and Vita Vea mainly at the DT position, with Unrein and Allen likely as reserves, but those two, just might end up playing a bigger role than anyone thinks!…

Mounties came out on top of Newtown in a high-energy match, that has seen them earn not just a week off, but a spot in the Preliminary Finals. Jeff Lima showed all of his experience in the match, having the game of his life with some incredible charges mixed with a never-before-seen ball playing ability to set up various tries. Mounties were missing Sam Williams, but that did not seem to bother them as they ran in five tries to down the Jets 30 points to 12. Both sides displayed plenty of energy in the opening stages of the match, but none more so than the in-form Jarrad Kennedy, who broke open the Newtown left-edge defence just six minutes into the game, and set up a try for the lingering Zac Santo to open Mounties’ account under the…

After that they’ll make their way to face Chicago with a meeting against the Blackhawks then finishing up two days later in Dallas.
