After it was band form T.V. and radio, they use other methods such as billboards and project placement. The companies claimed it was to keep adult switching brands. The switching statistic were to low so there had to be another reason, then people found out that they were saying adolescents were their future customers. 90% of smokers started by 18. They want them to start before 18 because then they do not understand the risk of smoking, and by the time they do their hooked. A positive to the internet is that it is a great use of socializing and exploration for adolescents and emerging adults. Another positive is that is holds a lot off information on various topics you have access to at the click of mouse or tap of a finger. The internet can also be used for negative things as well as positive things. The cat room are popular among adolescents, but sexual predators as well. They can be sexual exploded rapped or even murdered because they don’t truly know who their talking to they only know what that person is telling them. 1in four adolescents have been exposed to sex. Some have been asked to have sex or to send other sexual related things. 3% have got aggressive socialization inquiring sexual things. The most viewed thing on the internet is porn. The internet promotes academic cheating because all the resources like pre written papers. The internet may promote social isolation because adolescents and emerging adults spend a lot of time on the internet. A positive use is that the internet helps them keep in touch with friends and family when they move or can’t be there for them in person. Another positive of the internet is that it lets them explore their identity and find potential friend who can relate or that enjoy the same things. Globalization is giving more and more people access to things like the internet so they can stay connected. The media keeps adolescents from other cultures grounded to each other because media can be translated. The adolescents may have grew up in a traditional culture, but have been exposed to Western media so they may combine a traditional song with a Western one like Bollywood. The older children have more freedom to explore the internet because they are less guarded by their parents than the younger children are. The effects of globalization have messed with the gender roles of arranged marriages and chastity among woman in some cultures. The media is restricted in some countries even restricted by gender. Hey are using their new gender roles they’ve seen through the media to construct their own gender roles, this is causing some conflicts in traditional cultures. They strive for more freedom, and choice in their lives since being exposed to Western media. The book uses a town with no media then they come back after it has been introduced. They never played sports for recreation now they are. Their relationships have changes as well openly courting or touching in public was not seen before and is now the norm for these adolescents.
