Cyberstalking can also be more than just impersonating a fictitious person to gain information to perform unlawful acts. In an article written by the University of Michigan in regards to sexual assault prevention and awareness “Cyber stalkers target their victims through chat rooms, message boards, discussion forums, social networking sites, and e-mail. Cyberstalking takes many forms such as: threatening or obscene e-mail; spamming (in which a stalker sends a victim a multitude of junk e-mail); live chat harassment or flaming (online verbal abuse); leaving improper messages on message boards or in guest books; sending electronic viruses; sending unsolicited e-mail; tracing another person 's computer and Internet activity, and electronic identity theft.” One of our many sources of communication whether it be to keep in contact with a long distance relative or if it is used to send information amongst employers and employees is via email. With the touch of a keyboard you can send a message to another person and they can receive it within seconds. A form of cyberstalking can be sending unwanted emails to another person containing abusive or threatening content in which a person feels threatened. Whether it be something that we encounter as we are surfing the internet, logging on to and browsing through our favorite social media network such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat, or simply reading through our emails, we are all subjected to possibly becoming a victim of cyberstalking. Furthermore, if our society is more aware of the dangers that we have within our cyber world, we can all be better educated and be able to educate our children about the dangers as well. The truth is cyberstalking is no different than regular stalking. In both cases you are invading another person’s privacy and it is against the law to do so. By bringing awareness to others and sharing stories as well as its consequences hopefully we can all make a change to all be able to live a life free of
