The main goal for Stop.Thick.Connect. campaign is to get American people to understand the consequences of using the Internet if used wrongly and the campaign pushes a more secure usage of the Internet (Homeland Security – Cyber Security). The intelligence departments in the United States had learned about the Tsarnaev brothers from Russian government. The Russian government had been watching the family while they were living in Russia because, they feared that they were religious extremists (Sullivan). When the family moved to the United States the Russian Government had warned the U.S. but when U.S. officials tried to gain more knowledge about the threat of the Tsarnaev family the Russian government never responded with and intelligence data. Eileen Sullivan explains in her press report for PBS that, “it was only after the 2013 attack that the U.S. intelligence community learned that the Russians withheld some details that might have led to a more thorough FBI investigation” (Sullivan). It is unclear whether or not the United Stated government could have used this intelligence to prevent the Boston Marathon Bombing. If FBI and Department of Homeland Security would have obtained the need information about these unknown details of Tsarnaev families’ extremist religious activities U.S. government believe that there would still be a small chance in preventing the terror attack (Sullivan).
