First of all, as mentioned, it causes effect on ocean wildlife. Plastic contains some chemicals that are difficult to be reduced and constitute a threat to the ocean environment and living organisms. Plastic factories produce a great amount of greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide, which will lead to significant increase in global warming that can make big changes on many species habitats, therefore their numbers will decline and in more serious cases, extinct. Recently, a US report has been concluded that 100000 marine mammals die every year in the world’s oceans by swallowing or becoming entangled in plastic rubbish, and the position is getting. Careless disposal of plastic can have dire consequences. For example, plastic bag may be appeared to look like a tasty jellyfish to an indiscriminate feeder for instance, the sea turtle, but plastic is indigestible and this can cause choke, block the intestines of the feeders, or cause infections in those animals that consume it. According to the Centre for Marine Conservation, over 25,000 pieces of fishing line were collected from U.S. beaches during the 1996 annual beach clean-up and during the clean-ups involved fishing line, at least 40% of animal entanglements were reported. When a marine animal such as a Cape fur seal gets caught up in a big piece of plastic, it may simply drown, get exhausted and even die of starvation in order to put a greater effort to swim, if not, the plastic …show more content…
The quality of the air we breathe, the water we drink or bath, and the environment in which we grow our food has deep effect on body health. A recent US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Study researched that about 93 percent of the US population has bisphenol A, a chemical that can be found in canned goods and in hard, clear plastic items including baby bottles, in their body. Endocrine disruptors are ubiquitous in our environment and have an immense impact on our health. What is EDC? Endocrine disruptors chemicals (EDC’s) are being added to the plastic products in order to make it softer and ease in handling. These EDCs are very usual in our environment. When it is absorbed by human beings and wildlife, mimics the action of hormones and have been linked to reproductive problems in animals and human beings and indirectly affects the fat cells. The major chemicals that are used in the making of plastic are highly toxic and pose serious threat to living beings of all species on earth. Some of the constituents of plastic such as benzene are known to cause cancer and other human diseases. Another example is heating food in the microwave using plastic containers, especially when you are heating those of food containing fat, will lead to food poisoning which in turns affects the body and human
