Pros And Cons Of Would You Have Quit

Would You Have Quit?

That's a difficult question. It could go either way. I’m going to go through the pros and cons of staying and leaving. The pros of staying is that I will be fighting for my Country’s independence. The cons are that I have the risk of getting sick, I might get frostbite and my feet might crack and bleed and lead the enemy to us. We have no shoes. We need shoes to keep us going so we don't freeze. I have the risk of getting hypothermia and dying to that. We have no food to eat to keep us energized to fight and walk. I have a highly possible chance of dying from starvation, hypothermia, sickness of sorts, frostbite, and or dying in battle.

Now about Quitting the war. Nobody likes a quitter and I don't have the kind of spirit to believe that you should quit at something because it's too hard. This is different though. This is your life on the line, it’s a life or death situation. You could go to sleep one night and not wake up or you could go home and sleep in your own bed with no worries. You could go into a battle one day and not come back out or you could support the Continental Army from home. You could get hypothermia, suffer, and die or you could be in your house next to your warm fire to stay warm.

Imagine enjoying the comforts of one's home; simply dining with the family protected by any and every outside discomfort. Then imagine deciding to leave this behind in efforts to defend a nation that great patriotic feelings have been developed towards.. Author and professor, James M. McCaffrey, wrote the well researched book Army of Manifest Destiny: The American Soldier in the Mexican War, 1846–1848 to portray the war in the “viewpoint of the common soldiers’ experience” (xii). Most authors simply write regarding where the battles took place and who was in charge. McCaffrey, however, zooms in to what actually went on as having a life of a soldier.…

Some people might use this as a reason to quit, but some would use this to stay because they wouldn’t want the soldiers to die in vain. A soldier would be abandoning his friends if he left. In document C it talks about the awful experiences soldier had to go through. If a soldier just left then he would have suffered for nothing. A soldier would be abandoning his country if he left just because he was scared.…

I am not going to stay because of the deaths and illnesses. In document A it says that 50% of the soldiers were sick and it also said that 10% where dieing. That means that there is only a 50% chance that you will be able to fight which means that there is a good chance that you will get sick and not even be able to do what you are there for. That is why I am leaving because there is no point in getting sick and maybe dieing before you even get to go fight for your independence.…

If I were a member of the American Continental Army and the time came for me to either quit or re-enlist, I would have quit. There are many reasons as to why I would quit. For instance, if I had survived this long, I’d probably be counting down the days to go home. Most of the soldiers or recruits could have families that miss them every single day. They would be glad to see their loved one in person rather than through a letter.…

The Many Reactions to War The characters of “The Return of the Soldier” and “Pale Horse, Pale Rider” waver from wanting to acknowledge the war and its effects to wanting to erase all traces of the war. Within both novellas there are characters who want the war to go on so that it can run its course, and there are characters who just want the war to end so that their loved ones might be safe. With the war being so prevalent in everyone’s daily lives, there is also the feeling of needing to contribute to the war effort, or at least keep up appearances, however unwelcome it may be. A transition exists, from characters believing that the war will run its course to the realization that there may be no future outside of the war in its effects for…
