When the United States of America first began, there were small villages with men and women of varying degrees of wealth. Like any society, there will always be people who have little money and poor living conditions, better known as poverty. In the colonies of the new world the church and the neighbors of those in poverty put food on their plates and improved their lives in many ways so they could prosper. These acts of kindness were a great help to the poor but became less effective as the population increased as well as the number of poor, but the amount of charity received per person decreased. A vast majority of the Republican party has a certain motive of why they are supporting and working so vigorously to support a reformation of welfare. The motive run by a possible need to be re-elected for office and to continue being paid by the taxpayers money. This could be a possibility because of the growing number of poor and their want for a new and more effective system that will improve their lives(Haskins). There are many erroneous claims made by those who support welfare. The claim stating that the people on welfare want to work more than sitting back and hoping they will be saved from the pit of poverty by the government is an error and quite frankly very unrealistic. Many of those who receive the welfare benefits are happy with just getting a chunk of money and other items than to work for many of the benefits that the government rewards them for doing nothing(Cozic). A possibility for reforming the current welfare is that certain people might lose the welfare benefits if they cannot meet the work hours, which in turn would decrease the number of those receiving money from the hard earned taxpayer
