Violent video games are known to have both negative and positive effects on individuals.
According to Pediatric Clinics of North America, “playing violent video games can prime aggressive thoughts, increase positive attitudes toward violence, and help create a hostile attribution.” However, there are some pros of video games. Video games can improve their ability to evaluate tasks and information as well as define motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Games can help both children and adults improve in several different areas including mental disorders, dyslexia, ADHD, and much, much more. Violent video games have been linked to real-life murders. For example, Adam Canze often played violent shooter games. This led him to develop a violent nature, which, in turn, caused him to shoot and kill twenty first graders and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School. By playing video games people are improving at taking in sensory details and turning them into accurate decisions. Those who play these games are able to make decisions twenty-five percent faster than those who do not. Games, such as Call of Duty, can further increase our ability to think quickly. Playing violent video games can increase several different skills, but they still have negative effects on your brain. As stated by Eleni Kardaras, “Youths who are heavy gamers can end up with 'video-game brain, ' in which key parts of the frontal region of their brain become chronically underused, altering moods". This study also asserts that a lack of use of the frontal brain, contributed by video games, can change moods and could account for aggressive and reclusive
