Pros And Cons Of Two Notetaking Methods

There has been ongoing discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of two notetaking methods among academic setting: longhand and laptop. Laptop notetaking method is usually transcribed notes while longhand notetaking method is usually summarized notes from the lecture/class materials. Laptop could be distracting for the students due to divided attention and cognitive overload. Prior studies have discussed different findings based on notetaking methods and memory retention tasks. Each notetaking method have its’ own levels-of-processing framework, which affect the test performance. In addition, encoding and external storage play its’ role on test performance as well. The current research investigates if longhand notetaking is still considered
