Ap English Is Torture Necessary For the United States In the debate on torture in the United states, it is the widely believed that torture is a reasonable way to obtain information. The United Nations Convention for discussing Torture passed in 1994, torture to be defined as "any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person” in order to collect information or to punish the person “for an act he or a third person has committed or is suspected of having committed, or for the intimidation to coercing him or a third person for any reason.” Torture in most situations is both time sensitive and necessary to save lives along with that

Torture to sum has many aspects of pro and con but for the United States torture can be greatly helpful in providing information that otherwise without it would kill many innocent people. If we were able to prevent the september eleventh attacks, thousands of lives would have been saved, along with billions of dollars in economic damage. Intelligence agents had information that Osama bin Laden was up to something, but they had nothing specific as to place and time. Today, the FBI and CIA are in the same situation. The next attack could involve a nuclear "dirty" bomb, an anthrax or smallpox bioweapons attack, or a poisonous chemical attack. What had happened on september eleventh was terrible, but the devastation of a mass destruction weapons attack could be a force that has no reckoning. Of course torture may not be moral, but we are talking about the lives of many thousands, possibly even millions. Low level attacks like a homicide bombing could cause the loss of many Americans lives, even if …show more content…
Administered by the sick people that are insistent on continuing terrorism. As we saw with the American soldiers and government politicians in Iraq. It does not matter how well we treat our captured because our soldiers will always be faced with brutal torture or death in tenfold. Consider the terrorists held from Guantanamo Bay. The prison there holds some of the most evil, venom spewing men in the world. Yet, we feed them well, allow them books and prayer time? how do we refrain from beating them senseless. Several prisoners released from there have said they were treated well and fed better than in their own country which is close to unacceptable. Anything short of a god awful experience described by prisoners to the roads of hell is a failure. Prison is there for a reason and if we are doing anything but teach them a lesson equal to their punishment is inconceivable. The point is, it does not matter what they did to become prisoners if they come out of a prison thinking we give them the royal treatment, we have not done our job and it would be better to just send them home for a harder time. In the end Torture overtime has become much more humane and you get what you need very efficiently. Most of us were taught "Do unto others and let them do unto you." This famous quote means that what they have done

When hearing about torture, whether on the news or in an article, we as Americans do not consider the lasting effects it has on people. Physical and psychological torture is mainly employed as war tactics, to get information out of people. Torture is not a concept that is talked about on a day to day basis, because of the many freedoms we experience as Americans. In the article The Case for Torture, Michael Levin portrays torture as something that should be permissible.…

The thesis of this essay is clear and ridiculous. The argument that public torture is a more suitable substitute to prison time is so inhumane and primitive; it makes me wonder whether or not the author is being sincere in his essay. He supports his arguments by listing victims of these severe punishments and the ordeals that they endured.…

Strained positions for long hours, sleep deprivation and waterboarding, with the occasional punch or slap, may sound worth it in order to save thousands of innocent Americans lives from the ongoing war of terror. It is a known fact that the American government used the term “enhanced interrogation” loosely in order to cover up their questionable actions to get any little piece of information about any terrorist motives with torture. Enhanced interrogation has been described as systematic torture in order to obtain potential terrorist information. Even though the CIA get their information, the process behind on how they got it always remains confidential only for the government. Because of the confidentiality this causes a problem to the public and foreign relations.…

There is a thin line between torture, coercion, and persuasion. For some countries, torture is an adequate form of punishment used to not only instill fear, but to also show the consequences of prohibited actions to others. However, for the United States and other countries who have signed the Geneva Convention, torture is strictly prohibited, but is still practiced in different forms. The article “The Dark Art of Interrogation,” written by Mark Bowden, explores various interrogation techniques used throughout the War on Terror by the United States Military, the Israeli government, and the New York City Police force. Each of the agencies consistently agreed that using “hard torture” was “the classic shortcut for a lazy or incompetent investigator”(…

Some forms of torture are so gruesome that people consider them unethical and wrong. Torturing could also turn countries against each other. There is a bunch of treaties and regulations between countries that if a country would want to leave those treaties it could stir the pot between countries. Also this could cause turmoil within the country, I know for a fact that a lot of people in America are strongly against torture. Whether is because it's because of religious purposes or they are just against torture overall.…

One of the ideas which I agree with the fact that if someone murders someone innocent they should be tortured endlessly instead of just being locked away. The culprit should feel the pain of the victim. I however, see a downfall with this idea too. What if the person who is supposedly convicted is actually not the person who committed the crime? That would make it so someone innocent has to suffer excorticating pain for no reason.…

Before we loose the lives of Americans we can prevent attacks and murders of innocent people with the help of Guantanamo Bay. Saving the lives of American citizens is reason enough to keep Guantanamo Bay running and in mint condition. The circumstances which these prisoners are in and have created for themselves by attacking the Unites States, treatment should not be the concern. The United States should be doing anything and everything to take the proper precautions. Along with fighting the war on terror at any cost by using Guantanamo Bay we are also able to keep these detainees off of the homeland of the United States of America and this presents the reason of why Guantanamo Bay is necessary to keep running in full…

No one wants to be tortured. Sitting in my padded chair facing my desk it is easy to say that. There are problems out in the world that will put pressure on others into doing things that will hurt others. The source of these problems could be religious, family, or threats, but again the world isn’t so nice as to leave out the people who will do these things just because they want to. I have mixed feelings about using torture but it could be a possible solution to life-threating issue and only a fool would ignore a solution, but it is important to decide when to use torture and how far to go.…

This is something that is a lot more common than it should be. Another reason people are tortured is due to their religion, race, or ethnicity, “Roma communities were singled out in Kosovo, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia. Kurds bore the brunt of Turkish torture. ”(Torture: the facts). This judgment of people because of who they are and punishing them for what they can not control is wrong and must come to an end.…
