“Rikki-tikki had a right to be proud of himself; but he did not grow too proud...." (Kipling, 4).This is a sentence in Kipling’s book Rikki-tikki-tavi. It is meant to be for the time nthat Rikki beat Nag and Nagaina, two vicious cobras, that were mistreating and eating most other animals in the garden. After this, Rikki should feel proud of himself because the snakes are very wise, have very impressive physical abilities, and Rikki did not have much help from other animals. The first reason that Rikki should be proud of what he did, is that the cobras are very bright. They knew that the mongoose is bad for their little eggs and they knew how to get rid of him. ``But are you sure that there is anything to be gained by killing the people?'' …show more content…
The only help he got was from Darzee’s wife, the family, and Chuchundra. Darzee’s wife helped him to distract Nagaina, the family provided him with food, and Chuchundra told him where to go (in a sense).Other than this, Rikki fought the battle all by himself. If defeating two cobras that are twice as long as him, single handedly doesn’t make him proud, then it is hard to figure out what will. “Darzee was a feather-brained little fellow who could never hold more than one idea at a time in his head; and just because he knew that Nagaina's children were born in eggs like his own, he didn't think at first that it was fair to kill them. But his wife was a sensible bird, and she knew that cobra's eggs meant young cobras later on; so she flew off from the nest.”(Kipling 8). This sentence explains how foolish and unhelpful Darzee is to the Rikki. People could say that Rikki should not be proud because he is a murderer, or did not let the snakes retreat. Rikki threatened Chuchundra, however that was the only way to get valuable info. Rikki could be seen as a murderer, but the snakes were worse. And lastly Rikki did not let Nagaina flee for freedom. This was the right thing to do because if she did flee, She would just go to another garden and eat animals

Rikki Tikki was a true mongoose. Throughout the whole story, Rikki Tikki stayed true. If Rikki Tikki knew that something or someone was going to harm his friends and family, Rikki Tikki would harm them first. Rikki Tikki wouldn’t just talk about what he would do because e would actually do it. Rikki Tikki should be proud of himself because if he were too scared, Nag and Nagaina could just rule the garden and kill everyone and no one would ever stand up to them.…
