Pros And Cons Of The Tennessee Promise Scholarship

The Tennessee Promise Scholarship has become a defining moment in the future of college education. Now that the Tennessee Promise Scholarship is available, many new students can get the aid they need to succeed in college and in their future. It is hoped that many incoming college freshmen will take part in this program, which will provide them with their first two years free, leading them to a full degree. While the Tennessee Promise Scholarship and HOPE scholarship have many positive traits, they both have downfalls. But by examining these pros and cons, I hope to come to the conclusion that overall they are a beneficial program for the Tennessee college system.
The Tennessee Promise allows students to obtain a scholarship that will provide a mentoring program to students. “It provides students a last-dollar scholarship, meaning the scholarship will cover tuition and fees not covered by the Pell grant, the HOPE scholarship, or state student assistance funds” (tennesseepromise.gov). Students can use the Tennessee Promise Scholarship at any of the thirteen community colleges or twenty-seven applied technology. The HOPE scholarship is still getting pushed around by the Tennessee Promise Scholarship, hopefully governors will resolve this issue.
