A recent discussion has came up about how some schools in the eastern part of America have made the rule that if a student isn’t maintaining a 2.00 GPA or higher, their licenses can be revoked. While this is difficult for some people around the country to come up with an agreement on, many people disagree with it. Taking away a student's car for getting bad grades is an unfair idea. Granted, taking away a student's car because they are getting bad grades might make the student try harder in school. Yes, if student notices themselves getting bad grades, it could possibly motivate them to work harder in school and show more effort.…

As a new principal at Howard L. Jones High School, I have many challenges facing me on my first day. Jones High School uses the zero tolerance policy when it comes to discipline, and that policy can create a lot of tension among stakeholders. My school is diverse, and that in itself is new to this school. The first problem I am facing is our district’s drug policy and the young lady that was sent to the office because of a mysterious pill that was found in her possession that supposedly is for allergies. My second challenge is our district’s policy on weapons and the young man that is in the office with a sharpened file.…

What would you rather have, a later or earlier start for school? Many students would like to have a later start time for school but if you think about it you would need to make up the time you slept in. Also many people believe that the only thing starting later would do is put more money into stuff we don’t need. Based on the article titled, “More zzz’s can lead to more A’s: Seattle Schools Move Start Time for Teens”, one believes that Beaumont High School should not change the start time to begin class later due to schedule changes, transportation, and sports schedule. First off, later start times for school will not only affect our school schedule but will also affect our sleep schedule.…

A city council is debating the adoption of a 10 p.m. weekday curfew and a midnight weekend curfew for teenagers. If the curfew is adopted, teenagers on the streets after those hours would be breaking the law. If this curfew is put in place, it will put an unfair and unnecessary interference on the lives of not just teenagers, but their families as well. Most teenagers have responsibilities, like jobs, whose hours may sometimes run past 10 p.m., so they are not able to be in the house by that time. Also, city council installing a curfew doesn't mean teenagers won't get in trouble.…

As technology and our ever-changing society enables more teenagers to do more, sooner, one can easily observe the accompanying concerns among our adult population- and our lawmakers. One example of this is a recent proposition suggesting that students should be banned from driving to and from school if their area provides bus services. The reason for this idea is that doing this would simultaneously relieve traffic congestion and fix morning tardiness issues. However, I submit that such an action would be undesirable for both the students and the school. My reasoning for this statement is as follows:…
