There are many reasons why the Keystone XL Pipeline should not be built. The first reason being that at anytime during transportation of oil there can be oil spills. Building the pipeline can affect the surrounding wildlife by destroying their habitats and also building the pipeline it can kill animals as well. The final reason on why the pipeline should not be built is because the pipeline can cause environmental damage (climate change and greenhouse gas pollution).
My first argument to why they should not build the XL Pipeline is because at anytime there can an oil spill no matter what kind of technology they have to prevent oil spills it can fail at anytime, and because of that they cannot prevent an oil spill. A very recent example of an oil spill was on August 5th, 2015, where 5 million litres of bitumen-water sand droplets were found to have leaked, from the Nexen Energy Pipeline. This event occurred south of Fort McMurray, Alta. What this means? This means even in 2015 with all the technology we have, we still can’t prevent an oil …show more content…
By this I mean that building the pipeline means that you need to destroy trees and other vegetation, also meaning that you are destroying poor animals homes (such as chipmunks, squirrels, birds and many more). There are 4 animals that are in extreme danger because they are already endangered and they are living in the way of the pipelines construction path. These animals are in danger: the Whooping Crane, the Greater Sage-Grouse, the Swift Fox and the American Burying Beetle. Then because of the pipelines construction these animals can be endangered, unlikely but possible even extinct! This pipeline even needs power lines and then it creates a collision danger for birds and bats in the area of the pipeline. With a lot of animals already endangered and extinct why add more animals to the list with the Keystone XL
