A breach is a breach, no matter how insignificant the incident. A myriad of scenarios available by patient data includes identity theft to the sales of patient info for medical and pharmaceutical purposes. Upon further investigation regarding various breaches in data, the numbers are shocking. Moreover, while every individual affected by the breach was not maliciously targeted, the fact remains that the information is/was unsecured in some form or fashion. The intended purpose of HIPPA is to protect individual personal and health information. Using real personal data in a classroom setting is not ethically following the rules of the HIPPA Privacy Rule even with the association of the organization. Regardless of the affiliation with the organization associated and how the policies cover the scenario, students are in the learning phase and have not been vested in as true medical professionals. Lives are ruined on a daily basis due to technology issues concerning personal data, the ethics committee linked to the medical studies need to tighten their policies to ensure they are not contributing to additional privacy
