Tuesday evening, CNN hosted in Las Vegas the first Democratic Debate for the 2016 presidential election in which former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders performed strongest out of the five candidates.
The presidential debates help Americans understand where candidates lie on subjects that affect their personal lives and the country, aiding citizens to vote accordingly.
CNN reported 15.3 million people watched the debate, and polls conducted through and after the debate revealed people believed Clinton and Sanders performed the strongest throughout the night.

“The American people are sick of hearing about your damn emails, @HillaryClinton,” Sanders campaign said on Twitter during the debate following Sanders remark. This tweet alone received over 12,000 shares by Wednesday morning, and had media websites buzzing for hours after. Sanders campaign utilized Sanders media hold by asking for donations while he was still on stage. Within the four hours of the debate, the Sanders campaign raised $1.3 million from supporters.
Clinton did not have as large of a media presence as Sanders but still performed the strongest of all five candidates. “Hillary has had a rough start trying to run for president again,” Eric Sheppard, a judge in Travis County, said. “But after watching the debate, I can tell she is ready and prepared to handle anything thrown her way as president.” Clinton’s camp told MSNBC that her campaign was riding on her either doing poor or extremely well in this debate.
