As Nicolas Carr, a well-respected author, states in his article “How Politics Breaks Out Brains and How We Can Put Them Back Together” “The trouble is when we’re so blinded by our partisanship that it overrides reason.” Many Americans do override this reason because they are so strongly influenced by what others say. People often trust the media in the information they give people, but it is not always correct, and can give Americans false or over-exaggerated information. But nothing comes back to the rulers from the people except the cheers.” His article was written in 1939, which just shows how much the media in general can deceive us with filtered information. It also shows that this problem is not one that has been occurring in the past year, but has been occurring for many years. In an Intelligence Squared debate called “When it Comes to Politics the Internet is Closing Our Minds” where Eli Pariser, Siva Vaidhaynathan, Evgeny Morosov, and Jacob Weisberg debated whether politics was influenced by media and the information they give us.
