Going further into this digital revolution, textbooks are an obtrusive object of the past that should be replaced with tablets in the K-12 school system. As a matter of fact, the great debate of whether to exchange heavy obtrusive textbooks for light, portable tablets has been going on in the school systems for years now. There are cons to this act, but there are many more pros that override the negatives. The first benefit that comes with tablets is having improved posture. The issue of sore muscles and slouching will be eliminated. Currently students are lugging around colossal textbooks for eight hours a day. The average student has seven classes a day. Excusing electives, that leaves five classes: social studies, math, science, foreign language, and English. Each class will have a textbook that the student will have to tote around. Students will be hunched over trying to support the hefty weight while trying to beat the tardy bell. For this reason, if all of a student’s textbooks were on a light, portable tablet that is “much lighter than print textbooks” (Tablets), it would decrease the amount of back problems young people have. Hence, they wouldn’t have to worry about running back and forth to a locker exchanging their textbook every period because they will all be on one handy device. This could also help with student tardiness and forgetting to bring their books. When one uses something for an extended period of time, they develop new skills. This would be beneficial for life outside of high school. It is important to realize computer skills are needed when out of high school. To help students make the shift into the bigger world schools should need to replace textbooks with tablets and electronic devices so the students can develop the skills they will need for the rest of their life. The world is technologically advanced and if one doesn’t have any knowledge about electronics, it will be difficult to acquire and maintain jobs. A majority of companies require their applicants to have quick computer skills and knowledge in computer software. Companies aren’t going to want to take the wasteful time to teach their employee’s computer skills so will hire
