When a closer look is taken at the classrooms in the early stages of education, the tools that were available came in the form of chalk boards, chalk, pencils and lined paper. Technology was comprised of resource and text books, and if research was needed for a specific assignment, students either utilized the school library or spent a Saturday at the local library combing their way through endless books to find what was needed. Through the advancements of technology, teachers and students have access to Internet capabilities at school and at home. Schools in the 21st century have become dependent on technology as a tool which has the potential to support teachers and students with their academic achievements in the classroom environment. …show more content…
The cons of this type of classroom setting limits the accessibility and versatility of technology due to its limited mobility leaving the devices to only be utilized within the traditional school classroom setting, which lessens the impact of teaching for the teacher and learning for the student. The pros are in the form of a strong Internet connection from direct connectivity without any interference from other electrical devices disrupting Internet service. When a closer look is taken, devices such as printers, keyboards, and microphones that once required long cables that ran from one component to the next in order to operate are now becoming independent. Through advances in technology, the devices that once depended on wired connections are now considered wireless due to Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth allows technological devices to function through the use of radio waves. The pros offer a traditional classroom setting that has now changed into a wireless classroom. The impact of this technology has the potential to increase the teaching and learning capabilities of teachers and students by giving teachers and students the capability to access academic subject content from basically anywhere. In addition to the Bluetooth technology, wireless cellular networks are allowing mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops to access the Internet and academic subject content from various locations such as cars, buses and sporting events. The cons of wireless devices and Internet services are due to the various forms of interference that can arise due to walls, ceilings, and electrical devices (Gunter & Gunter, 2014, chapter 4).
