One of the many things a teenager looks forward to is getting their license. To be able to drive yourself and your friends without the hassle of dealing with your parent(s)/guardian is one of the best feelings in the world. Obviously,…
Should States be able to revoke your driver’s license which you have previously earned, or disqualify you from receiving one until you are 18; if you dropped out of highschool. A surprising 27 states have said yes to this question. No, I disagree with “No Pass No Drive” I think it’s wrong and irrelevant to whether or not we are regularly educated. To me it sounds like a government overreach into the personal lives of citizens of the state.…
A recent discussion has came up about how some schools in the eastern part of America have made the rule that if a student isn’t maintaining a 2.00 GPA or higher, their licenses can be revoked. While this is difficult for some people around the country to come up with an agreement on, many people disagree with it. Taking away a student's car for getting bad grades is an unfair idea. Granted, taking away a student's car because they are getting bad grades might make the student try harder in school. Yes, if student notices themselves getting bad grades, it could possibly motivate them to work harder in school and show more effort.…
According to statistics, 16 and 17-year-olds represent 2% of all US drivers, but are involved in almost 11% of all motor vehicle crashes. Many disagree with the laws of teenage driving. Some view graduated licensing as an inconvenience, but it's purpose is to counteract the poor safety record for…
Drunk driving is the act of driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs to the point where mental and driving skills are weaken. Drinking and driving is illegal in all states because it is very dangerous and can lead to major accidents. The states nullify the law of drinking to keep our country safe, and also so people do not have to face consequences. The state of Texas is not lenient with laws for drunk driving. According to Rich Stim in a article from Driving Laws, published by Nolo titled, "Texas DUI and DWI Laws" it states information about how strict Texas is with laws of drunk driving: "The state of Texas has strict laws for drunk driving, and when you drink and drive in Texas, you risk your freedom, finances, and…
The first reason we should not lower the minimum legal drinking age is it would be medically irresponsible. Drinking alcohol at such a young age can do much harm to the body as it is still maturing. According to ProCon.org Headlines, the brain develops until around 20 years of age. The brain 's frontal lobes are very important during adolescence. The brain 's frontal lobes are essential for emotion regulation and having alcohol can interfere with development.…
sixteen year olds should be able to prove that they are responsible enough to handle driving through testing and proven capability. If it is just accepted that all sixteen year olds are incapable of driving, than these individuals will believe they are not adults for an even longer period of time. When society treats them as teens, then they are going to act like teens. If we treat these sixteen year olds as adults, than they can be expected to act more like it. If they really are ready, then they should be allowed to…
This clearly shows the majority of students consume alcohol, which leads to getting in trouble with the law, injuring or harming themselves, and even death. By lowering the drinking age to eighteen, students would not have to worry about breaking the law, since most college students cover their illegal alcoholic consumption regularly. According to Dr.Reginald Fennell, the drinking age now is like prohibition back in the 1920 's, many students can get alcohol even though it is illegal. College students are getting alcohol illegally, so the drinking age should…
Teens must know how to be responsible and “self-regulate” on their own. Teens need experience in order to learn, and raising the minimum driving age prevents teens from getting much needed experience at a younger age. Those who support raising the minimum driving age may argue that teens are reckless and irresponsible. However, teens only account for about 12 percent.…
This is very dangerous for teens that are constantly on the road and also drinking casually. People who are 18 don’t have much responsibility and still don’t know right from wrong. Making it legal to drink at a young age will cause teens to revolt and use the law as an excuse to cause…
The National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 is still in effect today. The act says that states that allow persons under twenty-ones years of age to purchase and publically possess alcoholic beverages will be punished by a ten percent reduction in their national highway funding (The 1984 National Minimum Drinking Age Act, Alcohol Policy Information System). If this act was repealed states wouldn’t be penalized for setting a MLDA lowering than twenty-one years old. This would encourage states to lower the MLDA to accommodate for the state's younger citizens and also keep the necessary funding for highway repairs and police monitoring. Though the legal drinking age can be set by individual states, it may prove to be more beneficial for our national government to create a law with no loopholes.…
Small town, Saturday night, midnight… high school teens bring the booze to the biggest party around. The problem is it’s illegal and it’s an addiction. Alcohol consumption of young adults seems to be an everlasting issue at hand, but the negative effects of underage drinking are obvious to see. The U.S. Congress “passed the National Minimum Drinking Age Act in 1984, establishing 21 as the minimum legal purchase age” for a reason.…
Teen Drunk Driving Eight teens die every day in drunk driving crashes. It has also been reported that one out of every ten high school students drink and drive. Teens are already at high risk when they're sober behind the wheel. Driving under the influence (DUI) is just asking for more trouble.…
Teenagers are not mature enough and this is the first reason why driving age should be raised. Teenagers wait for a long time to drive and when they finally be 18 and can drive they do crazy things like driving very fast which is unsafe thing for them and for other drivers on the road. Letting the teenagers drive in early age would increase the number of car accidents. As it is mentioned 5000 teenagers dies every year from car accidents. Teenagers are not matured enough to…
The excitement that a driver’s license brings to a teenager is one of the few things that hasn’t changed over the years. To teens, driving brings a sense of freedom and independence, it boosts self-esteem, and makes one feel grown up. However, teenagers have less experience, maturity, and driver training than most adults. Therefore, more teenage drivers are involved in car crashes every year and more are being killed.…
