Essay On Strict Gun Laws

The United States of America should enforce stricter gun laws in order to protect its citizens. Most people have access to guns, but many do not even know how to use one properly and are not aware of the consequences when pulling the trigger. Recent studies show that around 30,000 people in the United States get killed by firearms every year, whereas countries that enforce strict gun regulations show numbers in the hundreds or even lower than that. Therefore, the United States should enforce stricter gun laws and regulations which, in turn, will lead to a safer environment. (Alpers) Before that, however, one needs to take a look at the constitution of the United States, since it is the main reason for why there aren’t any strict gun regulations in the first place. Note that the firearms regulations are categorized as permissive in the US with only special circumstances prohibiting anyone from gun possession. On the positive side, the number of home-made guns and smuggling of guns and ammunition in the US is very low, but why wouldn 't it be? After all, almost anyone can simply walk into, for example, Walmart and buy himself a gun without much of a hassle, so there is no need to go through the trouble of illegally making or getting firearms. According to many people, criminals will always acquire guns; therefore, there is no point in gun control in the first place, but that is the same as saying, "I know this person is a serial killer, but I will just hand over my gun to him because he will end up with a gun anyway." Certainly, there are ways to acquire guns even with stricter gun control, but should that be an excuse to just hand them out to everybody?
