“It makes you select between two moral principles: you should respect the value of human life; or you should do something to alleviate suffering.”-Pros and Cons of Stem Cell Research Stem cells are a type of cell that has the ability to change into any type of specific cell that is needed. These cells are essential in research regarding regenerating muscles, bones, limbs or any other body part that has the possibility of regeneration. Organs generated from stem cells have a far smaller chance of rejection than organs from other people. Stem cells are being used today to treat many diseases as well as study others to hopefully be able to cure them. Hypothetically there is no limit to what stem cells should be able to cure, which drives researchers to work even harder. Although most of the research surrounding stem cells is positive, some disagree with its use because they think that it is unethical. The use of stem cells have opened up so many different possibilities in the medical field that the benefits greatly outrank any risks or unethical dilemmas that are possible issues.
Scientists theoretically can create organs in a lab out of a few stem cells they take out of a …show more content…
One of which is Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s disease is when nerve cells die for no known reason causing tremors in the body, little facial expression, stiffness, as well as progressively slower movement (Parkinson’s Disease). There was a recent study where patients with Parkinson’s disease had fetal brain stem cells injected into his own brain in the hope of replacing lost nerve cells. Clinical trials showed no significant positive change, although some patient’s symptoms got much worse. It is said that the positive effects may not become present for a few years and that researchers will have to follow up on patients (The Stem
