Most teenagers dream of having a little more time to sleep in the morning, but they don’t know of all of the consequences of starting school later. There are many different pros and cons of starting school later. I found that there are more cons of it. School should continue to start a 7:35 in the morning because there will continue to be enough time for practices and performances, the times correlate better with the younger kids school times, and students would have to stay up later if classes ended later. First of all, if school start times were pushed back, than school would have to end later. This brings many complications involving sports and extracurricular activities. Sporting events and practices most often happen in the evening. School starting later would allow less time for those events. This is a good system because the buses take home the middle schoolers and the high schoolers then they head to the elementary schools to take them home. This happens in the morning too. If high school ended at a later time than the school would have to provide more busses. Keeping the normal start time would save fuel. From the article, Megan Erbacher says, “Smith said things like the number of miles driven per bus route, the cost of transportation per student, bus fleet and driver pool sizes need to be investigated.” All of this meaning that the school would have to start to pay attention to the bussing system, instead of other more important things going on. Also, many kids after school must watch their younger siblings. In the article, Erbacher talks to David Smith, a superintendent, and they explain this concept very well. She says, “He noted many concerns, including teenagers that care for those children while parents are at work.” This might cause parents to have to pay for other child

School times can sometimes be absurdly early, but because of later start times some problems stir up. Later school start times can increase grades and the well being of the kids, but the downfall of that is that schools have to pay extra for more buses because usually a district only has a few busses, which then makes the school start times staggered. Although the wellbeing of kids is far more important. The idea of staggering school time is smart but if its hurting the health of people I would pay the extra money to keep kids safe. The first reason that school should start later is because it will allow kids to be more well rested and makes it easier to focus.…

They might be thinking having an early day can have the sports players practice in the daylight. Well, that sports player will be too tired to practice. Also, they would get hurt way more often by being tired during the practice. You might also be thinking the whole district will have to move their times back because the buses will take the high school later and then the middle school later and the elementary school later. I say that is even better for everybody to get more sleep than they need and have way more energy for the day.…

This solution is practical because it would be fairly easy to do and would allow all students in each district to rest longer for the next day. A third potential solution to this problem is to give students a rest period each day at school where they can sit back and relax and not worry about school for a while. This solution is practical because it would allow students to take a break each day and not stress over school and rest for the next class and be refreshed. All of these solutions are affordable to the do. This is because swapping Middle School and High School start times with elementary school start times would not cost anything because nothing is changing in the way the school is ran except the start times of both schools.…
