I personally do not believe in standardized testing because not every child is the same nor have they had the same experiences. For example, take a child that has grown up in an English speaking family from America vs a child that has grown up in a non-English speaking family from another country. Who do you think is going to do better on a standardized test? Probably the child that speaks English and is American; this is not to say the other child is dumb or unable to succeed it is just that he/she has not had the same opportunities to learn the things being tested.

In some cases formal might be better than informal depending on the situation and child and vice versa. There are times when teachers just need to see where a class as a whole is, so that he/she can then start focusing on things that more are struggling on and let up on things that it seems like all or the majority is understanding. For example, if all the children but one can write their name while holding a pencil correctly then the teacher doesn’t need to focus on that topic and can move forward. Informal is the best way to assess a child as an individual and formal is the best way to assess a group of …show more content…
The examples in the measures make it fast and easy for teachers to identify where each child is at by looking at their notes.
Anecdotal Records: There are a few strengths when using anecdotal records. First, it is a relatively fast way to write down notes as you see things happen in the classroom. Second, you can write open ended responses to what you see. Third, it is a great tool to have if there is ever any question about something that happened on a particular day and you need proof. One limitation to using the anecdotal record method is that you can pick and chooses what you write down which can make it difficult later if you failed to write something you should have. Also, sometimes things can be misinterpreted by the teacher.
Checklist: Out of all the methods this is my favorite because it is the fastest way to gain factual information. When using this method I don’t have to focus on paper work so much and I can focus on the children in my class instead of expecting the aid to. When I make my checklists I always add a little section to make an additional notes which makes it easier to fill out the DRDP. One con of using this method is that sometimes it has little
