The Pros And Cons Of Riding A Horse

Scott County Regional Horse Association spent two hours arguing about riders seventeen and under riding stallions at horse shows, or any SCRHA event. There is two different sides to this argument, one side agrees that juveniles should not be allowed to ride a stallion at any SCRHA event due to liability and safety of other riders. The second side, which is the side I strongly agree with, is that no matter the age, riding a stallion is always a chance you have to be willing to take. In fact, riding any horse is dangerous. Many associations around the world prohibit juveniles from ridding stallions. People from all over come to our horse park because there is no law or rule that says a child cannot be on a stallion. The association tries to include younger kids in events. Somewhere, somehow, a little girl or boy always ends up on a stallion. A random spectator usually points it out, goes to a member of the board, then complains that it is extremely unsafe due to the testosterone levels of a stallion. Horses react to the emotion you perceive. They are also very keen on body language, and what I refer to as “presence”, and expression. They know quite a bit about you before you ever get to them. They can read things about you clear across an arena. Passing this particular rule would not prevent riders from getting hurt, all ages included. It seems when all aspects are reviewed nothing can fix the problem. Being an equestrian is dangerous, what keeps people into it is the love for the animal and the challenge to better your horse with each ride. The chance of getting hurt is just part of the
