It opened doors for her; like when she could cash checks and use credit cards without suspension or even browse through stores without being followed by security. If she needed to speak to the manager of a restaurant it would be no problem and she could assume the manager was also of her race. Also if a doctor or lawyer was needed she would have no problem getting one. Realizing that parenting is also easier for her and she would not need to be overprotective of her children from the people who did not like them. It is also said that whiteness is also used as a proxy to determine class or social rankings. According to Schaefer in our sociology notebook “white privilege refers to the rights or immunities granted to people as a particular benefit or favor simply because they are white.” This is something that white people are born with and do not realize they have. A lot of people who are white do not realize the power they can have for just being white, there are a lot of benefits that come with it like when it comes to jobs, education, government and just being out everyday. We are all guilty of being like this, I know I am. Just because everyone has done this does not mean it is alright to do. Being prejudice means that you are stereotyping others. This is simply an opinion that is based on no reasons or experience. This kind of hate lead to congress passing the Hate Crime Statistics Act and they are now crimes that are being reported and investigated. An example of Hate Crime is the Holocaust, Hitler punished the jews for no good reason and just because they are jewish.
