Pro Capital Punishment Capital Punishment is considered to be the punishment deserved for committing horrible crimes and this is why it has been a highly argued topic ever since its creation. Capital Punishment is also known as the Death Penalty (“What”). The Death Penalty is the execution of an individual for committing a capital crime (“Death”). A capital crime is a crime that is so serious that death is considered the appropriate punishment. Examples of capital crimes include murder and the betrayal of one’s country (Nicks). Most executions in the United States are carried out by lethal injection. Some other methods are sometimes used such as electrocution, the gas chamber, hanging, and the use of a firing squad. The lethal injection is always an option for the criminal unless it is ruled unconstitutional. In some states prisoners have the option to …show more content…
So far this year, 23 people in America have been executed (“Execution”). A total of 1,417 United States citizens have been executed since 1976 (“Facts”). The Death Penalty is a very sensitive topic for many people due to their different beliefs of what is right and wrong. There are 31 states in America that allow the Death Penalty although 34 states have carried out executions since 1976 (“Facts”). This means that over half of our country is in favor of Capital Punishment. This also means that 19 states are against it. Capital Punishment should remain legal for closure purposes, expenses, and prevention. The Death Penalty helps to give the victim’s family closure (“The”). For example, some people may never be able to overcome the great loss of their family member and Capital Punishment provides them with at least some form of closure. In most cases, life in prison would mean that the criminal is still around to haunt the victim’s family (Messerli). Life in prison is not what the family would want because the person that greatly changed their life is still
