Science has got so advance we are on the revenge of knowing how to genetically modified an embryo and make is into what we want. Parents will soon be able to decide what they want their child to be like. They can make them tall, skinny, and smart if they wanted to. This is called prenatal engineering. There also a downside to using prenatal engineering, and we as a people have to decide if it is worth it.

Some many lives can be lost in the process of pursuing prenatal engineering because it is something new so who knows the problems it will have. It will also add the problems we already have. We as a people to a people do not know how to accept people for their differences, so creating a whole new type of can create problems. It will divide us more than we already are. It is also expensive, so it will only be beneficial to the upper class because they will the ones who can afford it. If we pursue prenatal engineering babies will become the new accessory, and parent will be using them for their personal gain. The child will have no choice in the matter. They must live the life that is planned out for them to live, Prenatal engineering was intended for good, but it has so many disadvantage. It would be better for us not to pursue prenatal

11-21-17 Mrs.williams Caleb anders When it comes to the “designer babies” there are many problems that could occur. Designer babies have genes that are either mutated or are somehow tampered with to make them the way the parent sees fit. So when you are tampering with those genes you do not always know what affect you will get and something could go wrong and the baby could end up born with a birth defect of some kind.…

Gattaca, is it really down to a science? “Technology makes things faster and more cost-effective, but it's not perfect. It requires you to be as flexible as you can be. - John Phillips” This relates to the society in the movie “Gattaca” due to the fact that the society is only for the “people” that are “valid” meaning that only people that have been genetically modified are accepted in the advanced work field of the future.…

Adding to this detrimental list is the desire for perfect, designer babies. Sure PGD can prevent awful hereditary diseases, but the cons of this technology definitely outweigh the pros. Genetically modifying children and choosing certain embryos will cause more harm than advantages because humans will become more power-hungry after choosing their children based off their standards of perfection, changing the DNA of embryos is morally wrong, and the genetic diversity of GMO children will not be very strong. One could say that designing babies is like the Subway sandwich line where people build their dream sub, except this time, it is dream children and the condiments are their traits. Shouldn’t children be viewed as gifts, not as sandwiches?…

What if it was possible for your child to live a life free of genetic diseases? Advanced reproductive technologies are now “allowing both doctors and parents to screen embryos for genetic diseases and select healthy embryos”. (“Design-a-baby”)(1) InVitro Fertilization is a process in which you fertilize eggs with sperm in test tubes – this is done within a laboratory, outside of the mother. Techniques such as these assist in preventing the chance of a child being born with a genetic disease.…

An Unethical Spin on New Life Imagine a world where little feet are running around that were genetically created or hearing a cry from a child who once was a chosen embryo knowing there was another embryo that was just tossed away. That is where our world might be in just a few short years if “designer babies” does not get stopped. There are researchers who are trying to get it legalized and people who have already had designer babies themselves. Designer babies should be illegal in the future because it is taking In Vitro Fertilization too far, it is unethical, not always reliable, and parents can have children without choosing their specific characteristics.…

Although this research has much potential, the adverse effects outweigh the positive gains. It may be beneficial because it can enhance and cure, but it is also unethical and ultimately causing problems within society. Mothers and fathers would be deciding a child’s genes, including interests, appearance, and talents. Which school a child goes to and which hobbies they take part in can be choices that a parent makes, which in turn hopefully makes the child’s life better. The parents making decisions for their unborn fetus robs them of molding their own identity because their physical traits have been chosen for them indirectly.…

It is within human nature to strive for perfection. To be the best we can be, and now humans are on the brink of discovering how to finally reach this “perfection” we desire through genetically modifying fetuses or in other words creating a designer baby. However, should we really turn to designer babies in our search for perfection? In my opinion I do not believe we should because there are so many unforeseen consequences of designer babies that we cannot comprehend. We may come across bacteria that were originally harmless but due to the genetic engineering it became pathogenic to humans.…

The goal of gene editing is to make modifications to specific areas of the genome. A topic that has been argued on in a big debate held by moderator John Donavan an author and correspondent for ABC News. Genetic engineering should not be accepted because of the many risks it can cause, the amount of money it would take to make these changes, and also it would not be fair to the parents who cannot afford it.
