If you think they should get paid then there are a bunch of good reasons why they should be paid. One of main reasons is that the college sports industry generates close to a trillion dollars a year, some of that money should go to the people that get those schools the money (Team Spirit 2). The coaches and athletic directors get paid millions at the big schools, at least they can do is give a couple thousand to the players. The NCAA continues to vote to against paying student-athletes. But instead they always say that they are amateurs so they should not be paid and they give the money to the athletic directors and coaches. The NCAA rules that keep colleges against paying student-athletes is immoral, but it is also most likely illegal. “Section 1 of the Sherman Antitrust Act, in pertinent part, states that "every contract, combination or conspiracy, in restraint of trade or commerce is declared to be illegal.(Team Spirit 2)" That means that the student-athletes are under contract and getting nothing in return. Playing college sports let you get in-shape and learn things to help you come an adult while you are playing your sport. It's believed that college athletes who appear on television should be paid out of any money received by their respective schools from the television networks. Paying college athletes would encourage athletes to stay in school longer and not leave for a professional career. Which would improve their whole life because they would finish the education
