In the state of Alabama which is one the hardest and strictest on drug charges. If you are caught with any type of drug under 2.2 pounds and charged for it is a class A misdemeanor. A class A misdemeanor is the highest misdemeanor charge. The maximum sentence for this is 1 year in jail and up to a $6,000 fine. So its good for them every time somebody goes to jail or prison. But its ruining the economy for the tax payers who have to foot the bill. The prison system is all about making money and it doesn’t matter how many lives are ruined over petty crimes and how much of the tax payers money is spent. The people who run the system are just looking to get rich. They don’t care the guy who just got one to many speeding tickets and is going to lose his job because he is going to jail . All they care about is there maximum profit and if that means taking some to jail or ruining somebodies life over a speeding ticket or a minor drug possession they will. The prison system is not here to make the world a better place its here merely for profit to get the guys running the operation
