He assumed certain people liked him when all they wanted was to further their own careers by getting rid of Othello, who they saw as inferior to them. Here is this man just trying to blend into a new society and adjust to the various cultural norms but can never fit in because of his race. After killing his wife, the plot of jealousy and lies is uncovered and afterward it is discovered who all was involved and why. The guilt over killing his innocent wife leads Othello to kill himself. Othello was said to have had an epileptic fit as he was believing the lies told to him by Iago, and only Iago was telling him these things and nobody else.
