Solar vs. Nuclear (Title Undecided) Electricity. Its what drives modern society. While such a statement may seem a whole lot to swallow, we subconsciously realize that our lights, this computer you are using right now, cell phones, and just about everything else run on electricity. So where does electricity come from? Currently, the majority of our electricity is made by extracting finite materials, putting them through combustive processes, and wastefully generating this bounty that we so often take for granted. While the effects of these processes on the environment may be in question, we will inevitably have to deal with the realities of utilizing resources that if just don’t last forever. In response to the alarming realization that our society is based on self-destructive foundations and dangerous practices, many new technologies are being introduced in an effort to curb human footprint on the environment and to pave a path of sustainability for humanity on this planet for presumably centuries to come. One one hand, nuclear technologies represent an intriguing proposition in being close to more traditional forms of energy production in its deployment. However the extreme costs associated with putting this technology into use can sometimes outweigh the benefits and make this technology hard to acseess for many circumstances. Solar technology however, has the benefit of being modular and relatively easy to use, but the sun doesn’t shine all the time, and because of this, interesting problems arise that have to be solved through expensive and complicated methods of battery storage technologies and supplementation with other forms of electricity
