For many years my emotions have been closely connected to those of my mom. Whenever she gets upset, I very easily adopt the same behavior. Whenever anyone close to me—like my friends, boyfriend, or other family members—is/are down-hearted, anxious, or upset, I seem to quickly absorb his/her/their emotions and become anxious or upset myself. In addition, any type of conflict creates an uncomfortable feeling or anxiety within me. As a result, I can be considered to be highly neurotic. These qualities could be defined as disadvantages of the neuroticism trait in my personality. Both the biological perspective of personality and the trait perspective of personality hold theories and explanations for the causes, development, and characterization of neuroticism. Although emotionality is not always seen as a characteristic of a strong individual, I believe my trait of neuroticism has helped develop many positive aspects in my personality and life.
