Personal Statement: Neurosurgeon

Superior Essays
Neurosurgeon, a doctor that specializes in the nervous system, is a career I want to pursue for the reward of helping others, the ability to work with the brain, and the helpful benefits. It was actually recent that I became interested in this job. I thought that I would be an OB/GYN to work with pregnancy, but I realized that I was not interested in doing that. Then it hit me. I love the brain. I love how the brain works, how people do the things they do, why the brain does what it does, and I just want to learn more. The thing is, I do not want to spend my life listening to people 's problems. I asked my mom if there was a job that worked with the brain in a hospital setting, and that’s when neurosurgeon was introduced to me. I think it is …show more content…
Like it’s stated in “Employment and Outlook”, “Demand for surgeons will be very strong” (1). No matter what happens on Earth, people are going to need medical attention. This job helps people to survive, to heal, and to be healthy. People will always need that help. Even if a specialized doctor would not be needed anymore, they would still need a doctor in general. Every type of doctor is going to know the basics to where they will always be useful. The only difference is a specialized doctor knows also about a specific field. This job has a great benefits package, a lot more positives than negatives, a great salary, and a high chance that I will always be employed. I do not even mind the amount of time it would take to be qualified for this job. In order to support myself through medical school, I could even get a nursing license. I feel like this is a good decision. Although I am not sure if I am passionate about this job, I am passionate about the brain. My life has already contributed to my fascination with the brain. I think before I actually start working towards this career I would like to meet a neurosurgeon. Even if I would not choose this career or some reason, my interest in the brain will never go away. As of right now however I am still wanting to pursue this
