It involves people working to improve their skills, techniques, and strategies. There are four themes in action research: empowerment of participants, collaboration through participation, acquisition of knowledge, and social change. It is guided by movement through five phases of inquiry: identifying the problem, collection and organisation of data, interpretation of data, action based on data, and lastly, reflection (McTaggart, 1997).
The problem statement for this method is to evaluate and observe students interaction with the MySOS app. The research question was “Would you like to participate in the demonstration of the MySOS app”. The research design was to walk around campus demonstrating how the MySOS app functions and asking students to download the app. The population and sample consisted of all four UJ campuses with participants randomly selected. Data was collected by recording interactions and transcribing results including the surroundings. The limitations came down to the researcher having limited or no experience, time constraints, fewer people wanting to participate and actually pay attention. Ethical consideration in this case is to acknowledge that participation should be voluntary at all times. However, researchers should inform participants of what is being
