In the United States, there are certain rights that are protected by law but there is also some people that believe that it should not be protected. The second amendment which grants the right to bear arms has been a topic of an ongoing debate of whether or not the government should have more gun control. The two sides have really good point of views. One side maybe want less gun control because owning guns keeps them more secure in case of emergencies, for example: if people are breaking in homes, the residents with guns can fight back in case the home invaders have guns on them. Another example, people may need more guns in case of bigger threats like terrorist attacks and so on. The other side that is advocating more gun control may be concerned

Also, having guns in households tend to cause problems, guns that are left unattended are very dangerous for kids because they can get their hands on a gun without knowing that they are in danger and accidently pulling the trigger which would get them or someone killed. In the article, “Does owning a gun make you safer?” by David Hemenway a writer for the LA Times, discusses that “In 2003, studies found that counties with higher levels of household gun ownership have higher rates of household burglary, not lower. Burglars like to steal not only cash and jewelry but also guns”. Besides having kids in danger for an unattended gun at home, they also put themselves at risk from burglars. People need to start understanding that guns are not safe and that it is just an easy way to get people killed. People should also come together and solve this situation by agreeing to have more regulations on guns without putting too many limits. Some ways that it can benefit both sides is having gun buyers go through an intense background check so that it can prevent mass shootings that has tragically killed so many people. Other ways is by banning certain magazine capacities, and “long guns” referring to assault rifles & shotguns because those are the weapons that can kill a lot of people in matter of seconds. By having these regulations, hopefully people can live in peace without losing loved ones to gun
