There are several benefits that could potentially arise if Marijuana were to be legalized. Potential pro's include revenue boost, more effective law enforcement and criminal justice, less money supporting organized crime, safety controls on the drug thanks to the law and wider access for medicinal use.
It is suggested that many industries could benefit from it as well such as those in Medicine, Food Production, Manufacturing, Tourism, and Retail. In medicine, medical marijuana is now being harnessed as a tool or alternative to pharmaceuticals in treatment.The knowledge from indoor hydroponic marijuana cultivators can also prove useful to those in food production for their skills in developing plants with natural resistance to environmental conditions to help with agriculture. In a report addressing the Budgetary Implications of Marijuana Decriminalization and Legalization for Hawaii it is stated that "Decriminalization or legalization of marijuana has the potential to reduce or eliminate the social and economic costs of law enforcement, and could provide a unique new revenue stream for government". Additionally, the author claims the enforcement effort for marijuana has jumped significantly over the past half-decade in Hawaii. Due to its escalation, decriminalization of marijuana possession could reduce state and local enforcement costs by $9 million annually.Furthermore he says, "Legalization of manufacture and distribution of marijuana would reduce state and local enforcement costs by an additional estimated $3 million, bringing the total annual savings to $12 million. Legalization would also allow the state to regulate and tax marijuana distribution, and would provide state and/or local government with at least $11.3 million in additional tax revenues"
