Our country is declining, in many of the ways ancient civilizations like Rome did. There are people trying to run for office that would only make these problems worse. Our country needs a leader that is knowledgeable in foreign policies and knows how to run the military. They need to be a strong leader, and confident in the important things that founded our country. We need someone who can reform our economy and our everyday lives. Many ancient empires have fallen because of foreign groups of people attacking them and weakening their military. Many historians believe that one of the main causes of Rome’s fall was that their military was too weak and the invasions by barbarian tribe, nomads, or other groups. (Andrews, Evan) Leaders didn’t support the military as they should’ve or they didn’t have the money to do so. The Pros of a Donald Trump Presidency American politics have always fascinated me. Where else can you find a medium that discusses some of the world's most pressing issues, while at the same time giving you an opportunity to analyze American behavior as it unfolds upon a political system that has influenced many other countries, including the Dominican Republic. But let’s be honest, politics can also be very dull, with its insipid candidates, anticlimactic voting system, and laws worded in such a way that would confuse even Joyce. Thank god for Donald Trump!…

As the United States military, and the American public at large, struggle with the legacy and lessons of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT), Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) in Iraq, and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in Afghanistan, Lieutenant General (Retired) Daniel Bolger’s book, Why We Lost, adds an important element to the debate. An element that questions the advice to political leadership, the strategy, and the leadership of the country’s senior military officers. Bolger’s service as a general officer in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the senior levels of the U.S. Army staff, gives the reader a unique perspective on the inner workings of the conflicts. Bolger postulates senior military officers “demonstrated poor strategic and operational leadership” (xv).…

WOOSTER — A meeting with U.S. House Republicans and Vice President-elect Mike Pence has two area congressmen feeling upbeat about the new administration’s priorities. Republicans Bob Gibbs (Lakeville) and Jim Renacci (Wadsworth) were among those attending a meeting with Pence, who said President-elect Donald Trump wants to make sure his administration keeps its promises made to Americans during the presidential campaign. “It was a good meeting,” said Gibbs, whose 7th Congressional District includes all or parts of Holmes, Ashland, Medina, Tuscarawas, Stark, Lorain, Huron, Richland, Holmes, Knox and Coshocton. “It is an aggressive agenda, and I think the No. 1 thing is that we will keep our promises.” “The most important thing is Vice President-elect…

As the 2016 election approaches, the presidential candidates and citizens await the decision of who will be the next leader of the United States of America. Donald Trump, a republican candidate, should not be elected president due to his immigration policy. After reading the book Just Like Us, by Helen Thorpe, Donald Trump is surely the wrong candidate. The immigration policy of Donald trump, is not a feasible and realistic policy. The policy will not move our nation forward in the quest to repair an increasingly conflict-ridden immigration system because his policy is racist, he plans to deport millions of people, and it is simply unrealistic.…

America and Ancient Rome have many things in common. We both have a lot of culture, we both live[d] in a Republic, and America has gained many ideas from Ancient Roman history. Our founding fathers wanted to make America very similar to Rome and so they took many parts from Roman history that they liked and instituted it into our constitution. In America today we need to look at Roman history and see what went right and what went wrong. Since America is so similar to Rome we should learn about the mistakes that Rome made that led to the fall of it’s empire because we do not want to fall too.…

The presidential election is coming up in November, many must decide, like myself, who will lead the United States of America for the next four or more years. After careful consideration, I would vote for Jeb Bush because he has had previous successful leadership experiences and has proposed effective platforms like advocating for common core in education, pro-life, and protecting the Second Amendment. Jeb Bush is different from all the other candidates because he has had previous political experiences. He first entered the political arena and served the country as the Secretary of Commerce in 1986.…

According to ADP 6-22, character, presence, intellect, and development are the main attributes a leader should possess. Character, I believe is one of the most important attributes for a military leader to have. Leading a group of soldiers is different than leading a group of coworkers. Soldiers are away from their families, putting their life on the line for our country, therefor they need more from a leader than to just make the decisions. They need someone who demonstrates the army values (ADP 6-22).…
