It is characterized by quick, random movements of the eyes and paralysis of the muscles. So back to the researchers being able to track our regular REM cycles. They used the data that they acquired to conclude that dreaming is a freak physiological function. According to them, the reason we see images and hear sounds is the brain’s way of understanding noisy electrical signals, they believe that dreams are random and pointless. But are they? It is a common theory that the reason we may dream is to organize and declutter things in our brain. Every day you are bombarded with information, consciously and unconsciously. The modern dream theory suggests that it is a way to file away important information and get rid of meaningless information. Although if that were completely true then our entire day would be replayed to us during our REM sleep! The next theory that a number of scientists believe in is that dreams are for problem solving. this would explain why the phrase “sleeping on it” can provide a solution to the problem.
