Pros And Cons Of Lowering The Voting Age

Lowering the voting age to 16, as many european countries have done, has been proven to raise voter turnout. Although other ways have also been proven to increase turnout. There are very conflicting views when it comes to the voting age. One Side claims lowering the voting age to 16 will increase voter turnout. The other side claims Lowering the voting age isn't the answer, but improving the voting process is what we need to focus on. Both articles have very great points, but I believe lowering the age to be no harm. Although this is not very likely to happen. The majority of teens are heavily influenced by social media today. Now we have sources like twitter which show many opposing views. People can say basically post whatever they want on the platform. Many older voters get infromation from one of the only sources they know "The News". This is a very big aspect when it comes to lowering the voting age as many other countries have done. Although it has been shown to increase voter turnout in other countries, it will not be done in ours. Lowering the voting age creates risks for many conservatives, who rely on the older voters to get them elected into office. We do need to come up with a way to increase voter participation, instead of looking to lowering the voting age as the only answer. The oppossing side uses a european country as an example. Stating countries like Belgium with the highest voter turnout require all citizens to vote. The "Keep the Voting Age at 18" article calls young people's right to vote into question, as they lack civic responsibility. I would have to strongly disagree on that one point, as I belive young voters bring new ideas to this country. But I would have to agree with the other alternatives given to increase voter
