The school contains several water turbines that convert the tons of rainwater collected everyday into electrical energy. This is what makes Seattle such a great place because according seattle.gov, on average, it rains 154 days out of the year. If it is not raining LDA also have wind turbines shaped like various trees in the courtyard. What is great about this method of clean energy is that any extra energy can be collected and placed into batteries for use when it is neither raining nor windy. In front of the school is a massive courtyard which is a great place to talk and relax for everyone in the community. There is a separate community center that houses the theater where the public forums takes place. The building is simple enough for all kids in 7-12 to understand. On one side of the building is the academic wing in which the majority of classes are taught. In all class rooms the desks and chairs are able to be moved around in order to switch from a lecture style classroom to one set up like a socratic seminar .What’s unique about LDA is that the entire other wing is dedicated to the arts. This is because Leonardo understands the massive impact arts have on all students. Recording studio, crafts stations and an auditorium would be found on this wing.Since it is always raining, it would be horrible for students to have to walk in the rain to change wings. Luckily, this is a glass bridge (designed by a former student) connecting the two wings for the students .Lastly, there is a vast cafeteria open to the students, which provide all healthy options for students. This menu include meat, vegetarian, pescatarian, vegan, and food allergy
