One way that studies have shown that early start times for teens can be bad for them is that when they get the amount of sleep that they need then they will have better performance in school. “5 Pros and Cons of Later School Start Times.” Master of Arts in Teaching Guide, 2017, www.masterofartsinteaching.net/lists/5-pros-and-cons-of-later-school-start-times/ says that teens need 8.5-9.25 hours of sleep. Based on a study that included 9,000 high school students done by the university of Minnesota it say students do better on tests and overall performance when school starts later. So if they teens have more sleep they might do better on tests which is overall better for the school. Also a joint study by Oxford and Harvard showed that the optimum wake up time for teens that are 16 is around 10:00 am and 18 is 11:00 am.
