As a juvenile is sentenced to prison at a young age he might face many difficulties while prison he or she are going to be the youngest prisoners there and will make them an easy target. It won’t be easy for them but there are laws that have been passed to protect these juveniles from being victimized in prison. In some states juvenile can be charged as an adult at such a young age and research has shown that putting in a child or juvenile is not the best thing for anyone to do because it does show that kids o end up going in and out of prison for the rest of their lives. As we all know that the United States is the country that has the most people behind bars, around 2.4 million people that are locked up including juveniles. Most of the percentages show that most people that are incarcerated are due to people that are on drugs and or alcohol abuse. According to the Lion Heart Foundation “Since 1990, the prison population over the age of 55 has increased by 550 percent and a large percentage have parents, siblings, or children who have served time.” Even though our juvenile incarceration rates where high they are going down according to the Texas Appleseed “Over the last several years, there has been a more than 70% reduction in the number of youth in state secure lock-ups following Appleseed’s work to improve conditions in the Texas Youth Commission and then restructure the juvenile justice system.” This means that now there are new laws and ways that a juvenile should be tried and arrested …show more content…
After this 3 of the students wanted to get money but didn’t want to ask their mother for any more money to be gambling, so they decide to go rob a fast food place and get money. Then another three of the seven students that have signed to go play also decide to do the same to get money, but they all end up getting caught. The last student was supposed to also be in on it but he had his mind on right. Well as for the other students, the first three got caught then the other three. While in court the judge sentence two of them to four 20 year terms another to three 13 year terms and another to four 25 year terms and the other to was three 15 year terms. They were all sent to a maximum security prison. I saw that this was too much of a punishment for robbing a store but then again the judge was a white male and the ones being accused of the crime where black males.
