In David Leonhardt’s article “Is College Worth it? Clearly, New Data Say” and Chris Matthew’s article “Why College Isn’t for Everyone, Explained in a Single Chart”, they both expressed their opinions on college through specific evidence and statistics. Both authors discussed the pros and cons of the financial decision for college. I believe that college is a smart financial decision because having a four-year degree allows a person to do more with their life instead of those with a high school diploma. In Leonhart’s defense, he explains the statistical side of the argument. Also, you get the opportunity to understand your intended field of study. The benefits to going to college are limitless; you get the career you wanted, you start to earn more with your four-year degree, and grow within yourself and start to understand yourself in a mature manner. For my college experience, in order to ensure my college experience is valuable, I would need to focus on my studies and to make sure that my time there is worth the financial cost. My goal for my college experience would have to be knowing that in whatever I do, I will need to concentrate on ways to expand my knowledge and to hopefully create a difference within my field of study. The phrase “worth it” is intriguing because I feel that in order for college to be “worth it” to me is all determined by how much hard work you put into everything. If you do not strive for success and hard work, your whole college experience would be a waste and not “worth it” at all. To me, it seems like there are multiple levels of valuable. It all depends on how people see meaning in valuable. Many students could say they value making friends in college or they value freedom or they value academics. By viewing college as valuable and “worth it”, I believe that it takes effort in order to make it
